Early Career Confluence Workshop
January 27-29, 2026 in Fayetteville, AR
Join early career researchers from across the 12 Gulf Hypoxia Task Force states for an intensive three-day forum designed to advance nutrient reduction science in the Mississippi River Basin. This workshop brings together undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers from diverse disciplines including engineering, biology, chemistry, economics, social sciences, extension, and policy. We seek passionate early career researchers whose work addresses water quality challenges in the Mississippi River Basin, with particular interest in the seven Gulf Hypoxia Task Force research priority areas. Applications are especially encouraged from researchers at institutions within the 12-state basin region.

Throughout the workshop, you'll share your cutting-edge research through lightning talks and poster sessions while building lasting collaborative networks across institutions and disciplines. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the SERA-46 research agenda development process, connect with senior researcher mentors for ongoing career guidance, and develop fundable interdisciplinary research concepts. Professional development sessions will strengthen your skills in science communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The workshop covers all registration fees, meals from Monday's kickoff dinner through Thursday breakfast, and materials and resources. Hotel accommodations for three nights will be provided for the first 20 applicants. Additionally, five flight scholarships are available for participants with demonstrated financial need. Selected participants will present a 3-minute lightning talk, display a research poster, engage in collaborative research development sessions, and participate in pre-workshop virtual activities and ongoing follow-up programming. |
High-Frequency Water Quality Data Workshop
February 23-27, 2026 in Fayetteville, AR
Join us for a working workshop focused on collaborative synthesis research using high-frequency sensor data from the STREAM database. We're looking for participants who are ready to actively engage in manuscript development and collaborate during and after the workshop.
Workshop attendance is limited - we will be keeping attendance to ~25 scientists to maximize engagement
and product development. Attendees will be selected to maximize career stages, fields, skillsets, and perspectives.
Through a cooperative agreement with the EPA, we will be covering lodging, flights, and most meals for attendees.
For more information, contact Shannon Speir ([email protected]) and Admin Husic ([email protected]) with any questions.
